Self-assessment of Success in Learning ESP

The end of the term is closing. Many things have passed. There were some distractions but nothing that I can't cope with.

Writing (a summary)

Learning how to write a summary was easy. Now that we have written some analytical summaries I am sure about my skills. I think that in the future writing summaries will only increase the ability to write a brief summary.

Writing ESP vocabulary tests

Definitions from the modules are very important. By learning them I can check my psychological knowledge. It is easy to get ready for them except sometimes when there is not enough time to learn everything.

Writing class dictations

Dictations might be useful for others but I actually don’t believe in the practical side of this thing. I prefer other methods of learning and saving information.

Listening comprehension in class

It is easy to understand what is said. I watch a lot of movies in English so the comprehension in class doesn’t make any difficulties for me.

Listening to peers’ power point presentations

I have heard the vast majority of the presentations. In my opinion it is a good method to learn how to make a PPP because only by watching others I can see common mistakes and try to avoid them in my own presentation.

Making power point presentations

While making my presentation about five senses I haven’t learned anything new because I have learned about it in other subjects. Anyway making a presentation is a good way to recap and learn how to speak about the subject.

Speaking on ESP themes in class

In my opinion clear speaking in English is the most important thing in the university so discussing about different themes, modules is very interesting and useful. Also I think that speaking session in the class can be even longer as it gives very useful skills such as pronunciation.

To conclude I want to say that learning is not the hardest thing, adopting to the environment is much harder. Anyway there are things that I have learned and more things to be learned. So here goes nothing...
